HOP in Oil and Gas Image

Human and Organizational Performance, or HOP, is a new approach to occupational safety and health that’s becoming increasingly common at worksites around the world. HOP has some similarities with other forms of so-called new safety, such as Safety 2 and Safety Differently.

We recently had a discussion with safety consultant and HOP learning facilitator Helen Harris about her experiences implementing and using HOP for workplace improvements at two different companies in the oil and gas industries. Thanks to Helen for her time, insight and experience in the interview below.

Note: You can watch a recorded video of our discussion below or you can read a transcript of the discussion below that.

ANSI/ASSP Z490.2 Standard for Online EHS Training Now Final

ANSI Z490.2 Image

If you’ve been tracking the Convergence Training blog for a while, you know that we’ve been publishing occasional updates on the progress of creating the ANSI/ASSP Z490.2 standard titled Accepted Practices for E-Learning in Safety, Health, and Environmental Training.

As you may have intuited from that first sentence, you’re in for another Z490.2 update in this article.

But this one is a little more exciting than the previous updates, because today Z490.2 became final. You can buy yourself a copy of Z940.2 here.

You may also know that we’ve been creating updates on the progress of Z490.2 because Jeff Dalto of Convergence Training & Vector Solutions has been one of the folks helping to create Z490.2. If you’d like to learn more about Z490.2, Jeff will be featured in two upcoming podcasts at the ASSP Safety Standards and Technical Publications Podcast website–one for Z490.1 and one for Z490.2. Look for those podcasts at ASSP soon (we’re recording both on Tuesday, October 15 and presumably both will be published shortly after).

Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point for Food Safety Management

HACCP Food Safety Image

If you’re involved in food/beverage production and have food safety responsibilities, you’re required to fulfill Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point, or HACCP, compliance requirements (see 21 CFR parts 120 and 123).

HACCP is a systematic and preventive food safety approach intended to avoid the introduction or and/or contamination of food by biological, chemical, and physical hazards rather than simply inspecting food products after their production to determine if they have been contaminated (this is somewhat similar to the “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound full of cure” adage).

Enjoy learning more about HACCP and it’s important role in food safety, and don’t forget to download the free 7 Tools of Quality download we’ve provided for you at the bottom of this article as well.
