Key Questions
The following key questions are answered in this module:
What are some hazards that are specific to tissue machine?
Tissue machine facilities have hazards from mobile equipment, cranes/hoists, showers, slitters, headboxes, Yankee dryers, doctor blades, and tissue machine fabrics.

What are some safe work practices for working around Yankee dryers?
Yankee dryers operate at high temperature and pressure. To prevent stresses that can cause the Yankee to explode never spray water on a hot Yankee dryer and never hit the dryer with any tool. Also, there are strict procedures for warm-up and cool-down of the dryer.
What are some safe work practices for handling doctor blades?
Tissue machine doctor blades are very sharp and flexible. Always wear the proper protective gloves and handle blades carefully. Keep the area clear when changing blades.
What are some safe work practices for working around tissue machine fabrics?
Moving fabrics are capable of burning, cutting, and pulling you into the machine. Keep a safe distance from moving fabrics. Always follow procedures to change fabrics because they are heavy and can be difficult to handle.
