New Hazard Communication 2012 (GHS Aligned) Course Added to Health & Safety Training Library

GHS! Hazard Communication 2012! Everyone’s talking about it. Everyone’s googling it. Even my 16-year old daughters are asking me about it (OK, that last part isn’t true).

With all the interest, you may wonder what 3D animated training materials Convergence Training has ready for you.

HAZARD COMMUNICATION 2012 AND GHS

Until recently, OSHA’s Hazard Communication 1994 was the law of the land. In 2012, OSHA revised the Hazard Communication Standard to align with the Globally Harmonized System (what’s commonly known as “GHS“). That new, revised Hazard Communication Standard is called Hazard Communication 2012.

TRANSITION PERIOD FROM HAZCOM 1994 TO HAZCOM 2012

The revised, Hazard Communication 2012 Standard begins to become effective now. By December 1, 2013, employers must explain the new GHS-compliant label elements and safety data sheet formats to their workers.

There is a short series of other phase-in dates, and the entire transition must be complete by June 1, 2016.

WHICH VERSION OF THE HAZCOM STANDARD TO COMPLY WITH DURING TRANSITION PERIOD

In short, you can comply with either version, as long as you meet the requirements of the different effective dates. In OSHA’s words, here’s what that sounds like:

During the “Transition Period to the effective completion dates noted” (in this table), you “may comply with either 29 CFR 1910.1200 (the final standard), or the current standard, or both.”

So, the answer is–Hazard Communication 1994, Hazard Communication 2012, or both.

OUR TWO COURSES ON HAZARD COMMUNICATIONWe have two courses on Hazard Communication–Hazard Communication 1994 and Hazard Communication 2012. Here’s how we’re handling the transition period for our customers:

• Customers with our EHS subscription and our LMS will get the Hazard Communication 2012 course at no charge.
• Customers who have selected individual courses can change the course (an existing Hazard Communication 1994 for a new Hazard Communication 2012) when it’s time to renew this year.
• New customers will get the new Hazard Communication 2012 course to start.
