The second S is "straighten." Analyze the workflow of the area, and put things in their best possible location. If a tool is used a lot, store it near where it is used. If a tool is not used very often, store it farther away. Arrange tools and materials so that they are easy to see and reach. A person seeing the workplace for the first time should be able to easily understand where things are supposed to be stored. Use outlines and labels to show where things belong. For example, put tape or paint around the base of equipment, or around handheld tools to show their intended locations. Use labels when the outline alone doesn't give enough information.
